For living in Utah as long as we have, we've done a pretty terrible job of getting out and exploring. Last weekend we piled in the car and decided on a quick trip to Idaho. From Salt Lake City the drive to southern Idaho (Pocatello, Idaho Falls, etc.) is relative short – less than 3 hours. The rainy weather changed the specifics of our plans just a bit, but we weren't too upset. The main goal was simply to go. The area around Pocatello is by no means exciting, but the landscape was very pretty. In our wanderings, we happened upon the hydro-electric dam in the small town of American Falls. We spent some time watching the pelicans swim in the current, walked around under the old metal railroad bridge and took a few photos.
After doing some more research on the area, I found the photo below (c. 1902). It shows the same structure, but before the reservoir was built and the dam directed the water differently.
