To Wendover We Go

Airplanes are kinda a big thing in our family. Kyle's dad is a pilot (military originally, now commercial). My dad is also a pilot and works with the corporate crowd. Even our grandfathers flew once upon a time. Needless to say, an airshow is something we really enjoy. Today we went all the way to Wendover, Utah for a show.

Let's start with a few things we learned through the course of the day:
1. Addison fell asleep 10 minutes into the journey, which was good because she asked "why" more times than we could count during that first 10 minutes.
2. There's not a lot between SLC and Wendover, but it's pretty. The salt flats are amazing to see. I wish we could have explored a little more.
3. Addison believed with every cell of her being that we were going to fly on an airplane during the visit. We repeatedly had to explain that most of the planes had one seat, just for pilots.
4. There is almost no shade at an airshow unless you're sitting under a plane. It's all pavement and direct sun. It's pretty intense.
5. Kyle pointed out all of the Hill Air Force base planes. Important, because Kyle's dad flew in the F-16 squadron at Hill.
6. The noise from an F-16 is intense. We know that, but we didn't anticipate how a little one would react to the overwhelming sound. It rocked her socks. And after that initial moment of fear she had a blast anticipating the rumble of each pass.
7. Kyle got to tell me about the time he rode on a KC-135 (see below). It doesn't even have real seats, just some benches against the sides.
8. We had a really good time. Not everyone would love this kinda thing, but we do.

KC-135 Stratotanker Engine. Huge.

And the tanker again with Kyle & A for size.
This thing refuels other planes in mid-air. Nuts.

During the F-16 demonstration. Very loud, very awesome.

All decked out for a day in the sun.

Right up front for all of the action. Again, no shade anywhere.

Checking out a cockpit. She wanted inside every plane.

An intimidating A-10 nose

And, one of the old hangars on the airfield.
