This week has been filled with emotions and big life changes. It didn't happen overnight, but after much thought, sadness and frustration, Kyle has decided to leave his PhD program. Despite his immense efforts over the last five years, the academic politics and hoop-jumping took a heavy toll. The list of ways in which Utah failed Kyle as a graduate student (and others in the same department) is long. The Kyle I knew a year ago was almost broken by it all. Over the last few weeks he's packed up a lot of books, finished the last of his summer teaching and on Monday he started anew. Adios academia, hello financial planning. I'm super proud of him and happy to see him so happy.
